Parent Communicator Update: Planning Ahead and Working Together - Potential PSPS Update, October 14, 2026
Posted Date: 10/14/26 (03:00 PM)
Good afternoon, Summerville Elementary Parents, Students, and Staff,As we navigate this busy fall season, we want to share a quick, proactive, and useful update as we plan for a potential change to the school schedule this week. This early notification is regarding Thursday, October 15, 2026, and Friday, October 16, 2026.
PG&E has alerted us that our area may experience a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) starting tonight. While we hope power remains on, we want to make sure our families are prepared just in case.
Here is what our parents need to know:
-
7:00 AM Daily Decision: For the remainder of the week, we will assess our campus power status each morning and send an official update via ParentSquare by 7:00 AM. Please keep an eye out for a message on both Thursday and Friday.
- If we have power: School is a go!
- If power is out at school: School will be canceled for the day.
We love serving your students every day, and we appreciate your flexibility as we partner together to keep our campus safe and prepared! Better to plan ahead now than to be unprepared tomorrow.
Our goal is to keep our school open and learning happening when it is safe to do so. We appreciate your communication and partnership in this goal with us. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about our operations during PSPS events or other closure days, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Keep an eye out for our ParentSquare notification at 7:00 AM tomorrow morning.
Together, we can make a difference. And together, we are making a difference every day!
~Ben Howell, Ed.D. - Superintendent, Summerville Elementary School
